Chester (2011)

The Firebreathing Horse

photo: Scott London 2016

Chester the Firebreathing Horse is a supersized bust of a horse, made of recycled tire over a tube steel frame, which fronts Jason Anderholm’s art car of the same name. Featuring LED-lit eyes and fire-shooting nostrils, Chester has thrilled participants at numerous events such as Maker Faire and Burning Man since 2011. The car itself was built by a varied and talented team of fabricators, inventors, mechanics, and technicians. Since Chester’s debut, the car has been updated to run on propane, with marine-style controls and a bangin’ sound system. My contributions include the back bench sections, the horse tail, and structures and flame effects for the central pole and side torches.
