Serpent Mother (2006) by the Flaming Lotus Girls is an elevated, 168-foot long coiled skeletal snake with an articulated neck and head, featuring interactive fire along its stainless steel vertebrae and a central copper egg which opens to display fantastic liquid flame effects. The initial design was developed by Tasha Berg, with input from Charlie Gadeken and other members of the Flaming Lotus Girls. Yasi Mawaz-Kahn designed the Serpent Mother’s head, for which I provided technical design and led its fabrication. John DeVenezia, Caroline Miller, and Rosa Anna Defillipis designed its many flame effects, and Michael Prados developed its kinetics and engineering. The crew for this beloved installation included many more skilled and innovative artists and makers. More about Flaming Lotus Girls.
