FishBug (2009)
A breathing, dreaming evolutionary mystery
FishBug (Chimera Sententia) first emerged as a grant-funded installation at Burning Man 2009. Designed and directed in collaboration with Jessica Hobbs, FishBug is a 25-foot long, 15-foot high steel-structured interactive beast. Its kinetic sides flex deeply as jets of flame on its spine flare and fade, while projected video dances over its translucent scalp. Despite minor explosions shooting from its tusks, the softly woven interior encloses a cozy shelter in the belly of this evolving monster. Built with a 20+ strong crew of artists of many varied skills, the FishBug visited events across California and Nevada, before finding its forever home on the Spicer Ranch in Beatty, NV.
