Illumacanth (2015)

A deep sea fish which changed direction and transformed to survive

Illumacanth is a super-sized deep sea fish, surging out of the ground mid-roar. It is a 20-foot long, 15-foot high interactive sculpture with light and flame effects, whose armored exterior and heavy steel framing guards a soft, cloistered interior space. Designed and directed by Rebecca Anders with a generous grant from the Black Rock LLC, Illumacanth was built by a team of 20+ artists, technicians and craftspeople. It first surfaced at Burning Man 2015 and has since visited other events before settling into its current home at the Paradise Ridge Winery in Santa Rosa, CA.
